The Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft, a local art group, has amassed one of Switzerland’s most significant art collections over the years, and it is housed in the Kunsthaus Zürich, which is Switzerland’s largest art museum in terms of square footage. With a focus on Swiss art, the collection includes works from the Middle Ages to the present.
Major pieces by painters including Claude Monet (many pieces, including a sizable water lily picture), Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Jacques Lipchitz, and the Swiss Alberto Giacometti are part of the museum’s collection. There is also representation for other Swiss painters including Johann Heinrich Füssli, Ferdinand Hodler, and more recently, Pipilotti Rist and Peter Fischli. Additionally, there are pieces by René Magritte, Henri Matisse, Édouard Manet, and Vincent van Gogh.
